Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

It has been a while again.
It seem I always start any post with that :)
Again I been busy and have no real art to show and I am only here to encourage you to go see Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. I guess I am also late with that, since the movie has been in theaters for about 3 weeks. I was Lucky enough to have been part of the Assembly department, which does sets.

We take the empty environment after an artist from the design department designs the set and make it look as close as we can to the drawings they provide.
There is a lot of give and take from the design to the actual final look, due to the spacial relation on 3D. It is a fun place to be and the people I work with are amazing.

Here is a photoshopped example I took from the trailer.

I was also lucky enough to do some minor efxs for the movie. My bosses are amazing and teh Fxs department was kind enought to let me try. Thanks to everyone of them.

Here is the preview.

Also if you like games try Tetris Acorn drop.

It is fun and addictive.

Horton Hears A Who

The preview for the movie we are currently working on (Horton Hears A Who), is finally here.

I am excited about it because it plays in front of all the screenings of The Simpsons Movie, and because I did the set dressing for the last 5 jungle shots, after the Jim Carrey tittle card. Oh and not to mention that the project rocks :)

The HD trailer can be found at
http://movies.aol.com/movie/horton-hears-a-who/24695/main

Here are also are some images for the film, released earlier this year.

If you are a color connoisseur please watch the HD VERSION .

I hope you enjoy it :)

TC_ Capitan Corriente

I wish there were toys of these characters,
they are so fun.

I keep talking about my stay in El Salvador, so you are probably are tired of me mentitoning it. Anyway just a month ago, the Thomas Corriente commercials we where working on there, got released.

http://www.dpixelfactory.com/

There are 13 1 min educational shorts, for the local electric company, based on a series of characters and the mischiefs that lead them to be in danger with elctricity.

These are the original stills with which I left.

Thomas Corriente transformation
to Capitan Corriente.

CC slightly before forming a protective ray.

El Chamus flying toward kids.

El Chamus after being Hit with the CC protective ray.

I loved working on this project. All the work seemed organic
and because it was only two off us I worked in the whole pipeline.
I modeled, rigged, animated, did the efxs rendered and composited .

Although it was very hard work, I wish someday you may
have the same fortune as I did, to work with a friend in a magical project.

Here is a link to all the shorts as they are now . El Chamus model has changed drastically.

Sunset

It does not matter how much you know or how much you think you know, there is always room to grow in this industry.

This moving logo was done for a church affiliated company in California.

It is meant to establish the identity for a series that touches on abuse.

For me it was challenging because I never had done water simulation or lit a sunset before in my life. Also during the time of my involvement my desktop died and I was out without a computer for about a week.

This is the look that they chose.

One thing that I have learned, while doing freelance, has been that the client usually knows what he/she wants. Even though as artist we may have a vision of the project, sometimes it is nothing like what the client wants. Our job is to guide them and hopefully show them what they had envisioned.

That being said this is what I envisioned.

No solution is better than the other, one conveys one feeling the other an other.
It all comes down to what the ultimate goal of the project was and what the client feels is better for his project.

I have included a link with both what I sent them and what I liked just for fun :)
(This requires quicktime and a little waiting time if you use EI)

Director's CUT

Ha ha, I always wanted to have a director's cut of something.

Godzilla

This past weekend I did a Flash/AfterEffects animation
for a friend. My animation is going to be projected on the screen of the Tv that kids are watching. The the image on the TV is then going to go out, and the short film is going to start.

Alright, I like the way Flash draws, but I prefer the way After Effects parents layers togerther. I also like the fact that you can scrub and see how things move not having to worry about creating a preview because one has a movie within movie, like in Flash . I could be wrong, so if I am, please corect me.

Here are the rought audio cuts as well as the whole Flash/AE animation uncut.

The film noice effect is only meant for the Godzilla sequence, all to be added in post later. But I added it show you.

I am working on a bunch of junk, plus the film.

Oh, I just started the screenplay :) for my movie.
Hopefully I will be done in a year.

How does one get to Blue Sky?

I took a plane, but it was mostly luck.

The events that lead to it are as fallow. I will start from July because that is when I last posted.

July-Finished work as a Character Finaller in Barnyard the movie and then needing a break from it all and some R&R, I decited to help a friend produce a reality base TV series.

August-September- Produced and Coordinated "Abroad" a show about the travel http://www.fantailtv.com/home/ which lead me to Paris and Die, France. Then I took ten days to roam Italy, it was amazing.

I got back home on October 2nd and proceded to work on my reel http://www.antelmostudio.com/greetings/reel.mov (it does not stream in IE Use Mozilla or wait like a min to load) . At the end of the month I got a phone call from a friend (Rafael Arce) in El Salvador who needed help with a huge project, so I left on Nov 7 to El Salvador.

As I was leaving I sent out my only reel to Blue Sky Studios here in NY.

November-December- I was a generalist for his company in El Salvador, D' Pixel Factory http://www.dpixelfactory.com/ in which we produced three 1 minute shorts, and one 30 sec spot during my stay there. I stayed at my friend's family's house and his family treated me like their own. I am going back for a wedding on next month.

As I was there I got interviewed by Blue Sky ( a friend of mine who works there put in a good word for me) and eventually the company offered me a job. ( I owe him big time)

So I landed in Cali on Jan 10th and by the 16th I was in NY working :)

I will post the work from El Salvador this weekend. But as you wait for that try http://bsschallenge.blogspot.com/ a weekly drawing challenge from the guys at work. I posted last week and working on the one for this week. It looks a bit archaic but it was my first drawind on a waccom tablet. Boy do I miss paper and pen.

Thanks for all the support and prayers. I am blessed by God with my friends.

Hola

Wow!! The wonderful world of Blog.

It is funny how HTML has now become now part of my vocabulary. Have you guys seen the shirt that says "/body" I find it to be funny.

Anyway a blog by definition is an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page. Well let’s just say this will not be a diary it will be more like an extension of my website
http://www.antelmostudio.com/ I will post experiences in art, as well as work in progress nothing amazing. Also just to warn you I will probably only add an entry a week and this is why.

For the past few years I have been part of a crew for animated film set to be released this year. As of this month,
The Barnyard has been pushed from a release date of Oct 6 to a summer release date of July 28. This means I am busy at work.

Anyway, Drop me a line sometime. It is always nice to hear the world respond back.
