Traveling

I can honestly say i don't enjoy traveling.
I mean the part in the middle to and from the destination.
Going from coast to cast is exhausting and makes my ears hurt :)
Here are some sketches from JFK and LAX.

The City

Ah the city.
I love everything about it, I wish I could afford it, so I could move in.

But alas these are drawings from the city.

The piano man from Church.

Sketches from Battery Park

This is a long story but lest just say he can't find a cab.

The Confessional (sketchbook)

There is not much to report,
been doing a lot of drawing , here are a few drawings from the train, laundry mat,

I was doing monkey studies from google images, char design inspiration.
I apologize to those that feel drawing from pictures is not pure art.

That is all until next time.

Horton Hears A Who

The preview for the movie we are currently working on (Horton Hears A Who), is finally here.

I am excited about it because it plays in front of all the screenings of The Simpsons Movie, and because I did the set dressing for the last 5 jungle shots, after the Jim Carrey tittle card. Oh and not to mention that the project rocks :)

The HD trailer can be found at
http://movies.aol.com/movie/horton-hears-a-who/24695/main

Here are also are some images for the film, released earlier this year.

If you are a color connoisseur please watch the HD VERSION .

I hope you enjoy it :)

TC_ Capitan Corriente

I wish there were toys of these characters,
they are so fun.

I keep talking about my stay in El Salvador, so you are probably are tired of me mentitoning it. Anyway just a month ago, the Thomas Corriente commercials we where working on there, got released.

http://www.dpixelfactory.com/

There are 13 1 min educational shorts, for the local electric company, based on a series of characters and the mischiefs that lead them to be in danger with elctricity.

These are the original stills with which I left.

Thomas Corriente transformation
to Capitan Corriente.

CC slightly before forming a protective ray.

El Chamus flying toward kids.

El Chamus after being Hit with the CC protective ray.

I loved working on this project. All the work seemed organic
and because it was only two off us I worked in the whole pipeline.
I modeled, rigged, animated, did the efxs rendered and composited .

Although it was very hard work, I wish someday you may
have the same fortune as I did, to work with a friend in a magical project.

Here is a link to all the shorts as they are now . El Chamus model has changed drastically.

Here is the company Site

H2O Color

I been trying a new thing,

sketching with pen and then using watercolor to add the hue.
I like the results may people get so I decided to try it.

Second day I ever tryed sketching and watercolor.
Left: Central Park Right: Church and Train

I got stuck in the airport last weekend, for 8 hours in LA.

Still exploring.

Left: Legoland add
Right: More airport and yes there was a teenager on a skateboard.

I guess less is more.

Still working on it but thanks for stopping by.

Portraits

Chuck Jones once said that the easiest way to lose a friend was to draw his/her portrait.
I like my friends and the truth is, I don't want to lose them.

I once heard that a good exercise was to draw a portrait a day and for the reason previously stated and because I don't have time to draw till late at night when I get home, I been doing one self portrait a day all week.

I thought that in honor of self portraits I would revisit all the ones I have done over the years, and I have at my disposal.

Sometime in 2002 for painting class

09-2003 while listening to some Tunes.

10-2003 Mad about X-men (Not really sure)

03-2006 after getting home to my desk from the B-yard.

7-06 Acting out a scene for animation.

05-05-07 After looking at some roman art.

05-12-07 After buying some prismacolor pencils.

It seems that the further you go back in time the more they look like me.
Anyway, if you are reading this, draw, draw draw.

Sunset

It does not matter how much you know or how much you think you know, there is always room to grow in this industry.

This moving logo was done for a church affiliated company in California.

It is meant to establish the identity for a series that touches on abuse.

For me it was challenging because I never had done water simulation or lit a sunset before in my life. Also during the time of my involvement my desktop died and I was out without a computer for about a week.

This is the look that they chose.

One thing that I have learned, while doing freelance, has been that the client usually knows what he/she wants. Even though as artist we may have a vision of the project, sometimes it is nothing like what the client wants. Our job is to guide them and hopefully show them what they had envisioned.

That being said this is what I envisioned.

No solution is better than the other, one conveys one feeling the other an other.
It all comes down to what the ultimate goal of the project was and what the client feels is better for his project.

I have included a link with both what I sent them and what I liked just for fun :)
(This requires quicktime and a little waiting time if you use EI)

Director's CUT

Ha ha, I always wanted to have a director's cut of something.

Godzilla

This past weekend I did a Flash/AfterEffects animation
for a friend. My animation is going to be projected on the screen of the Tv that kids are watching. The the image on the TV is then going to go out, and the short film is going to start.

Alright, I like the way Flash draws, but I prefer the way After Effects parents layers togerther. I also like the fact that you can scrub and see how things move not having to worry about creating a preview because one has a movie within movie, like in Flash . I could be wrong, so if I am, please corect me.

Here are the rought audio cuts as well as the whole Flash/AE animation uncut.

The film noice effect is only meant for the Godzilla sequence, all to be added in post later. But I added it show you.

Click on the words:

UNCUT

I am working on a bunch of junk, plus the film.

Oh, I just started the screenplay :) for my movie.
Hopefully I will be done in a year.

If you are my friend you probably already seen this, but here is an oncore.

Here is the link to the comapny that made it.

Here is my link to the video (requires quicktime and a little wait only 2 megs)
